What do you think of when someone mentions the Middle Ages? Do images of starving peasants digging in the mud, carts filled with plague victims, pointless religious crusades, and Monty Python come to mind? Then the Society for Creative Anachronism is probably not for you. Or are you inclined to think of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, grand feasts by torch light, beautiful courtly garb, the dawn of Renaissance art, and the ideals of chivalry, honor and courtesy. Then you might just want to check us out.

The SCA (as it is commonly known) was founded some 30 years ago as a non-profit organization to promote the study and re-creation of medieval culture, crafts, and skills. It has grown into a worldwide fraternity of people who gather together to celebrate the nicer aspects of medieval life between 600 CE and 1600 CE.

One aspect of participation in the SCA is the development of a persona, a character you play that during activities. I play a 15th century Welsh tradeswoman named Glainfach o Coetir Traeth. She is an archer (as were most Welsh people of the time), a seamstress, and a scribe.
